I was thinking about this while finally getting around to writing some programming tutorials on Medium, which I’ve been craving to do for years, after challenging my self-conception that I would be doing it to communicate and help others learn, when I asked myself if I might instead be craving to do it out of the potential to get attention (esteem) – and a day later I’ve finally published a mere article after years of craving.
Maslow actually suggested that the higher needs, aren’t actually needs at all, but more like tendencies to consolidate proper needs being satisfied – so creating more things that might gain you esteem from others, might be motivated when you’re already fed, safe and held in good regard. Perhaps why social elites are more likely to go to the opera (only partial sarcasm).
