As inspired by (and expanding on) my friend Tim’s post:

  • A classy-cozy place to drink sparkling wine and read
  • Walking to the grocery store
  • Better yet, walking to a cheese shop
  • Travelling alone like once a month
  • Travelling with somebody like every other month
  • A place to have espressos in the morning within a few minutes of home where the people know me
  • Freedom, absolutely no demands on my time
  • A kitchen with a Dutch oven (once you go Dutch…)
  • A boy to cuddle at night
  • Observing seasonal festivals (Advent/Christmas/midwinter, Easter/Spring equinox-ish, Summer vacation/Midsummer)
  • Italy like 5 times a year
  • Seeing my family like 2-3 times a year
  • Hosting friends and family
  • Calling my parents like once 1-2 months
  • Long, long term friends that are the same even after not meeting for years
  • Walking to an independent cinema with indie/foreign movies
  • Working with other people (because working alone doesn’t work)
  • Being god smacked by great novel natural beauty
  • Hiking, but only in new places (exploration instinct?)
  • Dry martinis, so chilled it kinda hurts to hold the glass at first
  • Live classic jazz bands, but only abroad
  • Flixbus
  • Unexpectedly seeing the sunrise after a long night out (their never the same when planned)
  • Raving alone after going out with friends
  • Gaining new groups of friends (because transcending individual identity is an entirely different experience)
  • Getting on a train to the airport (but not busses, weirdly)
  • The sensation of the sun touching your skin
  • The sense of your muscles lifting slightly more weight than it did last time (at the gym)
  • Bertrand Russell (for correctly pointing out that pretty much any other philosopher is wrong about pretty much everything and just not worth reading)
  • Cognac, sometimes Armagnac
  • Chopin, but only Nocturnes
  • Comfortable clothes that look better than they should and last forever
  • The sensation of heat on your face
  • When friends mock you for being exactly how you are, because it means they know you, and don’t mind (true love?)
  • Hostels, without which I would have barely afford to travel, but with which I have travelled and seen so much for so long and met so many lovely people
  • Balconies, because humans need daylight, everyday, and nobody should believe otherwise
  • Napping in parks
  • Sunhats
  • The quality of unexpected intoxicated sleep, like rophying yourself
